Core Christian Beliefs About God and Jesus
Ever wondered why Christians believe God became human? The incarnation - where God took human form as Jesus - is absolutely central to Christianity. Jesus wasn't just a teacher; Christians believe he was fully God and fully human, born through the virgin birth to Mary.
The crucifixion and resurrection are game-changers in Christian theology. When Jesus died on the cross, Christians believe this provided atonement - essentially paying the price for human sin. But death wasn't the end. Jesus rising from the dead gives Christians hope that they too can have eternal life and that good ultimately triumphs over evil.
Original sin traces back to Adam and Eve's disobedience in the Garden of Eden. Christians believe all humans are born with a tendency to do wrong because of this first sin. However, Jesus's sacrifice offers salvation - a way back to a proper relationship with God and entry into heaven.

Understanding God's Nature and the Problem of Evil
Christians describe God using three key characteristics: omnipotent , just (fair), and omnibenevolent . You can see these qualities throughout the Bible, like when God creates the world in Genesis or shows love in John 3:16.
But here's where it gets tricky - if God is all-powerful and all-loving, why does evil exist? This is called the problem of evil, and it's been puzzling theologians for centuries. There's moral evil (stuff humans cause like war) and natural evil (disasters like earthquakes).
Some Christians argue that evil exists because God gave humans free will - the ability to choose between right and wrong. Others suggest that experiencing suffering helps us appreciate goodness, or that it tests our faith and helps us grow spiritually.
Life After Death and Final Judgement
Death isn't the end of the story for Christians - it's more like a doorway. Think of the caterpillar-to-butterfly analogy: just as a caterpillar transforms into something completely different, Christians believe our physical bodies will become spiritual bodies after death.
The Day of Judgement is when Jesus returns to judge both the living and the dead. The parable of the sheep and goats gives us a clue about God's criteria - those who helped others ("I was hungry and you gave me something to eat") are the sheep who go to heaven, while the goats face a different fate.
Christians believe in heaven and hell as eternal destinations. Heaven is described as being in God's presence with eternal happiness - "My Father's house has many rooms." Hell, on the other hand, is eternal separation from God, often depicted as a "fiery lake of burning sulphur."
