Functional Magnetic Resonance Imagining scan uses radio waves to measure blood oxygen levels in the brain. Most active areas use the most oxygen and 3D images of this activity are shown on a computer screen

Positron Emission Tomography scan allows live brain activity to be observed. An injection of a radioactive substance is given to the person. The most active areas absorb the substance and are usually represented in red on a computer screen
