Ever wondered how to tackle those tricky physics calculations? Let's break down the essential formulas you need to know. For speed calculations, remember that speed equals distance divided by time, and on a distance-time graph, speed is found by calculating the gradient.
When dealing with moments and levers, the formula is straightforward: moment equals force multiplied by distance from pivot. Remember that moments can act in either clockwise or anti-clockwise directions, which is crucial when solving balancing problems. Speaking of balance, a see-saw is balanced when the clockwise and anti-clockwise moments are equal.
For other important calculations, pressure equals force divided by area, and acceleration can be found from the gradient of a speed-time graph (change in speed divided by change in time).
Remember this! When solving physics problems, always check you're using the correct units. For example, pressure should be in Pascals (Pa), and moments in newton-metres (Nm).
The key measuring units you need to know are:
- Frequency: Hertz (Hz)
- Force: Newtons (N)
- Energy: Joules (J)
- Power: Watt (W)
