The life of Prophet Muhammad is a fascinating journey from... Show more

Muhammad was born in Makkah in 570, a lawless and unsafe place at that time. Life dealt him early challenges as his father Abdullah died before his birth, and his mother Aminah passed away when he was just six years old. After being raised by his grandfather and later his uncle, Muhammad worked as a shepherd before becoming a businessman.
In 595, Muhammad impressed a wealthy widow named Khadijah while working for her. Their professional relationship blossomed, and they eventually married. Despite his success, Muhammad was troubled by the idol worship that took place at the Kabba, an ancient temple originally built to worship God.
During the month of Ramadan in 610, Muhammad would retreat to a cave on a nearby mountain to pray. One night, something extraordinary happened โ the angel Jibril appeared to him, commanding him to "read." Despite being unable to read or write, Muhammad suddenly found himself reciting divine words: "Read in the name of your lord, who created man from a drop of blood..."
Did you know? The revelations Muhammad received throughout his life would become the Qur'an, the holy book of Islam that over 1.8 billion Muslims follow today.

When Muhammad began sharing Allah's message, he faced significant opposition. The ruling families of Makkah disliked his teachings because they threatened their power and authority. By 615, those who believed in Allah and followed Muhammad became known as Muslims, but they faced harsh persecution โ some were even tortured and killed.
While a few Muslims managed to escape to Abyssinia, most remained trapped in Mecca. In 619, Muhammad suffered personal tragedy when both his wife Khadijah and his uncle died. During this difficult period in 620, Muhammad experienced what became known as the Night Journey. According to tradition, the angel Jibril took Muhammad on a winged horse to Jerusalem, where he prayed with all previous prophets before ascending to paradise where Allah instructed him to pray five times daily.
The situation in Makkah eventually became unbearable, but in 621 hope arrived when the people of Yathrib (a city 200 miles away) invited Muhammad and his followers to live with them. This led to the Hijrah (migration) in 622, as Muslims gradually left Makkah for Yathrib.
Remember this! The Hijrah was so important that it marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar, showing how central this migration was to the formation of the Muslim community.

Muhammad faced a dangerous escape from Makkah as the ruling families sent seven sons (one from each family) to kill him in his sleep. Cleverly, Muhammad and his friend Abu Bakr took an alternate route and hid in a cave. When hunters found the cave entrance, they didn't enter because it was covered by a spider's web and bird's nest โ which the Muslims viewed as divine protection.
Upon safely reaching Yathrib, the city was renamed Madinat-al-Nabi (The City of the Prophet). Conflict continued between the Muslims and Meccans through three major battles: the Battle of Badr (Muslims won), Battle of Uhud (Muslims lost), and the Battle of the Trench (Muslims won).
By 630, Muhammad's followers had grown to over 10,000 strong, allowing him to lead a triumphant march back to Makkah. In a powerful symbolic act, Muhammad circled the Kabba seven times anticlockwise and destroyed all the idols, rededicating the sacred structure to Allah alone.
Think about it: Muhammad went from being persecuted and forced to flee his hometown to returning as its leader and establishing a new religion that would spread across continents โ all within about 20 years!
