Naselja in urbanizacija: Razumevanje mestnega življenja

Uvod v naselja in urbanizacijo
Predstavljaj si razpon od osamljene kmetije na Pohorju do New Yorka z 8 milijoni prebivalcev - to so vsa naselja, ki jih preučuje geografija. Vsako ima svojo zgodbo, funkcijo in način življenja.
Naselje je prostor, kjer ljudje živijo, delajo in zadovoljujejo svoje potrebe. Delimo jih na podeželska (kmetije, vasi) in mestna (mesta, velemesta). Razlikujejo se predvsem po gostoti prebivalstva, glavnih dejavnostih in načinu življenja.
Urbanizacija ni samo selitev ljudi v mesta - to je celoten proces, ki spreminja način življenja. Ne gre le za povečanje števila mestnih prebivalcev, ampak tudi za širjenje mestnega življenjskega sloga na podeželje.
Pomembno za teste: Stopnja urbanizacije (delež mestnega prebivalstva) je eden glavnih kazalnikov razvitosti države - razvite države imajo običajno nad 80% urbanizacije.
Ključni pojmi in procesi
Suburbanizacija je proces, ki ga verjetno poznaš iz lastnih izkušenj - ljudje se selijo iz mestnih središč v predmestja. Iščejo večje hiše z vrtovi, a obdržijo službo v mestu. To povzroča dnevno migracijo in prometne zastoje.
Ko se prebivalstvo seli še dlje od mest, govorimo o deurbanizaciji. Nasprotno pa reurbanizacija pomeni, da se mestna središča ponovno oživijo in privabijo nove prebivalce.
Aglomeracija je mesto skupaj s svojimi predmestji - kot Ljubljanska urbana regija. Megalopolis pa nastane, ko se več aglomeracij zraste skupaj, kot na vzhodni obali ZDA od Bostona do Washingtona.
Nasvet za teste: Ne zamešaj aglomeracije (eno mesto s predmestji) z megalopolisom (več zraslih mest skupaj)!
Tipi naselij
Podeželska naselja poznamo v treh oblikah. Samotne kmetije najdeš v hribovitih predelih, zaselki so manjše skupine hiš brez trgovin ali cerkve, vasi pa imajo že osnovne storitve.
Vas lahko prepoznaš po tlorisu: gručaste vasi imajo hiše na tesno brez reda (Kras, Istra), obcestne vasi se razprostirajo ob cestah (panonski svet), razložene vasi pa so sestavljene iz več zaselkov (hriboviti svet).
Mestna naselja segajo od običajnih mest do velemest (metropol) z več kot milijonom prebivalcev in megamest z več kot 10 milijoni prebivalcev. Ljubljana je naše največje mesto, a v svetovnih merilih le majhno mesto.
Za oceno: Obvezno znaš povezati tip vasi z reliefom - gručaste na Krasu, obcestne v ravninah, razložene v hribih!
Faze urbanega razvoja
Mesta se razvijajo po predvidljivem vzorcu, ki ga vidimo predvsem v razvitem svetu. Najprej pride urbanizacija - hitra rast mestnega jedra zaradi priseljevanja s podeželja.
Sledi suburbanizacija, ki jo doživljajo slovenska mesta danes. Mestno jedro izgublja prebivalce, predmestja pa rastejo. Ljudje se vozijo na delo v mesto, živijo pa zunaj njega.
V deurbanizaciji upada prebivalstvo celotne aglomeracije - to se dogaja nekaterim industrijskim mestom v ZDA. Reurbanizacija pomeni vrnitev v mestna središča, ki so bila prenovljena in ponovno privlačna.
Pomembno: Večina slovenskih mest je v fazi suburbanizacije - to pojasnjuje prometne zamaške na ljubljanskih in mariborskih vpadnicah!
Problemi velemest
Rast mest prinaša različne izzive. V razvitih državah se soočajo z onesnaženostjo zraka, prometnimi zamaškami in socialno segregacijo - ločevanjem prebivalstva po dohodkih.
Države v razvoju imajo hujše probleme. V slumih (barakarskih naseljih) živi pogosto več kot polovica prebivalcev megamest. Mumbai ima v največjem slumu Dharavi skoraj milijon ljudi na 2 km².
Kljub grozljivim razmeram pa slumi niso le kraji revščine - v Dharaviju deluje močna neformalna ekonomija. Ljudje se ukvarjajo z recikliranjem, lončarstvom in tekstilno industrijo, kar kaže na njihovo iznajdljivost.
Primer iz Slovenije: Suburbanizacija okoli Ljubljane povzroča dnevno migracijo - tisoči ljudi se vozijo iz Domžal, Kamnika, Grosuplja v Ljubljano na delo.
Hiter povzetek za ocenjevanje
Osnovna delitev: Podeželska naselja (kmetije, zaselki, vasi) in mestna naselja (mesta, velemesta, megamesta). Vsak tip ima svoje značilnosti in funkcije.
