Ogni giorno affronti il problema della scarsità: hai tanti desideri ma pochi soldi per realizzarli tutti. Quando devi scegliere cosa comprare, tre fattori influenzano sempre la tua decisione: quanto guadagni (reddito), quanto costa il prodotto (prezzo) e quanto lo desideri davvero (interesse).

La scuola marginalista ha sviluppato una teoria matematica per spiegare questi comportamenti. Secondo questa teoria, tutti noi seguiamo due principi base: il principio del tornaconto (ottenere il massimo risultato spendendo il meno possibile) e quello edonistico (agire per il nostro vantaggio personale).

Il concetto chiave è l'utilità: l'idoneità di un bene a soddisfare un nostro bisogno. È completamente soggettiva - quello che è utile per te potrebbe essere inutile per me. Cambia anche a seconda delle situazioni: un gelato è molto più utile d'estate che d'inverno.

L'utilità marginale rappresenta la soddisfazione che ottieni dall'ultima unità di un bene consumata. Segue la Legge di Gossen: più consumi qualcosa, meno soddisfazione ti dà ogni pezzo aggiuntivo. Pensa alla pizza: la prima fetta è fantastica, la quinta ti fa sentire male!

Ricorda: L'utilità totale è la somma di tutte le utilità delle singole unità - cresce sempre finché non raggiungi la sazietà.

Teoria cardinalista del consumatore

La scuola cardinalista sostiene che possiamo misurare l'utilità con numeri precisi, come se fosse una temperatura. Questo approccio ci aiuta a capire quando un consumatore raggiunge il suo punto di equilibrio.

Il punto di equilibrio è quella condizione magica in cui ottieni la massima utilità totale possibile con i tuoi soldi. Per raggiungerlo, devi essere perfettamente razionale e distribuire il tuo budget in modo intelligente tra diversi beni.

La chiave è l'utilità marginale ponderata: il rapporto tra l'utilità marginale di un bene e il suo prezzo. In pratica, ti dice quanta soddisfazione ottieni per ogni euro speso su quel prodotto.

Raggiungi l'equilibrio quando le utilità marginali ponderate di tutti i beni che compri sono uguali. Se un bene ti dà più soddisfazione per euro rispetto agli altri, dovresti comprarne di più finché i rapporti non si pareggiano.

Consiglio pratico: Quando fai shopping, confronta sempre quanto piacere ti dà ogni prodotto rispetto al suo costo - è il segreto per spendere bene i tuoi soldi!
