Cellular Respiration: Your Body's Energy Factory
Ever wondered how your muscles get the energy to move or how your brain stays powered up? Cellular respiration is the process where all your cells break down glucose through enzyme-controlled reactions to release chemical energy. This energy gets packaged into ATP molecules, which are like tiny batteries that power everything in your body.
Your cells use ATP for loads of crucial activities. Muscle cell contraction happens when you move, protein synthesis builds new proteins, and active transport moves substances around your cells. Even cell division and nerve impulse transmission need this energy to function properly.
