Understanding Light Microscopes

The key parts work together like a team: the eyepiece lens (what you look through) has a fixed magnification, whilst the objective lenses can be swapped to give you different levels of zoom. Magnification tells you how many times bigger that image looks compared to the real object - calculate it by dividing image size by object size.
Resolution is equally important but often overlooked. It measures how detailed your image can be - specifically, the shortest distance between two points that you can still see as separate entities rather than one blurry blob.
