Vector-Borne and Respiratory Diseases: Malaria and Measles
Malaria causes repeating episodes of fever, chills, headaches, and vomiting. Mosquitoes act as vectors, meaning they carry the disease from person to person. You can protect yourself with insect repellent, mosquito nets, and antimalarial drugs when travelling to affected areas.
Measles starts with cold-like symptoms but progresses to sore, red eyes, high temperature, and small greyish-white spots inside your cheeks. It spreads through respiratory droplets when infected people cough or sneeze.
Prevention is straightforward: get vaccinated, wash your hands regularly, and cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing. Vaccination is particularly important as it provides long-lasting protection.
Remember: Mosquitoes don't just bite - they can carry serious diseases, so always use protection in areas where malaria is common.
