Action Potential: The Electrical Signal of Life

Ever wondered how your brain sends messages to your muscles in milliseconds? Action potentials are the answer - they're like electrical waves that zip along your nerve cells at incredible speeds.

Your nerve cell membrane normally sits at resting potential 70mV-70mV, where more potassium ions K+K+ are outside and more sodium ions Na+Na+ are inside. When a stimulus hits, sodium channels open and Na+ floods in, making the inside more positive. This is called depolarisation.

Once the electrical charge reaches the threshold level 55mV-55mV, it triggers an "all or nothing" response. Every sodium channel opens simultaneously, shooting the voltage up to +40mV - this is your action potential peak. Think of it like a domino effect that can't be stopped once it starts.

The cell quickly recovers through repolarisation - potassium channels open, K+ rushes out, and the Na+/K+ pump restores the original balance. During the refractory period, the cell can't fire again immediately, ensuring signals only travel in one direction.

Quick Tip: Remember "DePoKaRe" - Depolarisation Na+inNa+ in, Potassium out, Repolarisation!

The app is very easy to use and well designed. I have found everything I was looking for so far and have been able to learn a lot from the presentations! I will definitely use the app for a class assignment! And of course it also helps a lot as an inspiration.

This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.

Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
