Kneževina Karantanija - Prva Slovanska Država na Našem Ozemlju

Osnove o Karantaniji
Naši slovanski predniki so okoli leta 620 ustanovili Karantanijo, da bi se branili pred sovražnimi Obri. To je bila prva organizirana država na našem ozemlju!
Karantanija je bila precej večja od današnje Slovenije. Obsegala je večino današnje avstrijske Koroške, Štajerske in dele Slovenije. Glavno mesto je bilo na Gosposvetskem polju na Koroškem, kjer je stal Krnski grad.
Vladal ji je knez, ki ni bil vladar po rojstvu - moral ga je potrditi narod! To je bilo zelo nenavadno za tiste čase. Kosezi so bili svobodni kmetje z posebnimi pravicami, ki so lahko volili in ustoličevali kneza.
Zapomniti si: Karantanija ni isto kot današnja Koroška - bila je mnogo večja!
Obred ustoličevanja kneza
Ta obred je bil tako poseben, da o njem govorijo še danes! Potekal je v slovenskem jeziku, tudi ko so vladali tuji knezi.
Najprej so kosezi izvolili novega kneza. Nato se je knez preoblekil v preprosta kmečka oblačila in prišel do Knežjega kamna. Tam ga je čakal kmet, ki je sedel na kamnu in mu postavljal vprašanja: "Ali boš pravičen? Ali boš skrbel za deželo?"
Šele ko je knez priseegel, da bo pravičen vladar, mu je kmet odstopil mesto na kamnu. Knez je sedel na kamen in se obrnil proti soncu. Potem so ga odpeljali v cerkev na mašo in nato na vojvodski prestol, kjer je še enkrat priseegel.
Edinstveno v Evropi: Ljudstvo je dalo oblast svojemu vladarju - knez ni bil samodejno vladar!
Družba in konec samostojnosti
Ljudje so bili razdeljeni v več slojev. Na vrhu so bili knez in plemstvo, sledili so jim kosezi (svobodni kmetje z vojaško dolžnostjo), potem navadni svobodni kmetje in na dnu sužnji.
Okoli leta 745 so se Karantanci znašli v težavah z Obri. Prosili so za pomoč Bavarce in Franke. Ti so jim sicer pomagali, vendar v zameno zahtevali, da priznajo njihovo nadoblast.
Tako je Karantanija postala del mogočnega Frankovskega cesarstva. Karantanski knezi so še vedno vladali, vendar so morali ubogati frankovskega kralja. Začelo se je tudi širiti krščanstvo.
Pomembno: Konec samostojnosti ni bil zaradi poraza, ampak ker so prosili za pomoč!
Zakaj je Karantanija pomembna danes
Karantanija predstavlja začetek naše državnosti - to je bila prva organizirana država naših prednikov. Njen obred ustoličevanja je bil tako napreden, da naj bi celo navdihnil ustanovitelje ZDA!
Črni panter, grb Karantanije, danes vidimo na spominskih kovancih in v grbu dežele Koroške. Knežji kamen je ohranjen v muzeju v Celovcu, vojvodski prestol pa še vedno stoji na Gosposvetskem polju.
Ta kneževina dokazuje, da so imeli naši predniki visoko politično kulturo. Dejstvo, da je ustoličevanje potekalo v slovenskem jeziku, potrjuje, da so bili Slovani tam glavno prebivalstvo.
Kratek povzetek: Karantanija je bila slovanska država od 7. do 9. stoletja v Vzhodnih Alpah, znana po edinstvnem načinu ustoličevanja knezov, ki ga je potrjevalo ljudstvo.
