Understanding Polygons and Their Angles
Polygons are simply 2D shapes made up of straight edges - think pentagons, hexagons, and triangles. They're everywhere in daily life, from the hexagonal tiles in your bathroom to triangular road signs.
When it comes to angles in polygons, there are two main types you need to know about. Interior angles are the angles you find inside a polygon, formed where two sides meet. Picture looking at the corner inside a triangle - that's an interior angle.
Exterior angles work differently - they're formed when you extend one side of the polygon outwards. Think of it like opening a door; the angle between the extended side and the next side is the exterior angle.
Here's a brilliant shortcut that'll save you loads of time: exterior angles always add up to 360°, no matter what polygon you're dealing with. Interior angles are trickier because their sum changes depending on how many sides the shape has, but there's a handy formula to work it out!
