La violence du père envers le fils
Le passage débute par la description des tentatives infructueuses du père pour attirer l'attention de Julien. L'utilisation du complément circonstanciel "en vain" et de l'adverbe "deux ou trois fois" souligne l'absorption totale de Julien dans sa lecture.
