Biology: Understanding Life Around You

Cell biology kicks off your journey into the living world. You'll explore how animal and plant cells differ, discover the simpler structure of prokaryotic cells (like bacteria), and see how cells become specialised for specific jobs. Understanding microscopes and magnification helps you see these tiny structures clearly.

Cell division and stem cells reveal how organisms grow and repair themselves. Meanwhile, diffusion, osmosis and active transport explain how substances move in and out of cells - crucial processes that keep everything alive.

Conservation of mass shows that atoms don't disappear in reactions, relative formula mass helps you calculate molecular weights, and moles (for higher tier students) provide a way to count particles. Concentrations of solutions connects to real-world applications.

Chemical changes explores reactions in action. The reactivity series predicts which metals will react, whilst acids and alkalis plus neutralisation explain everyday chemistry. Electrolysis demonstrates how electricity can drive chemical reactions.

Atomic structure reveals matter's deepest secrets. Understanding basic atomic structure and isotopes leads to radiation - a topic that sounds scary but follows clear rules. Radioactive contamination teaches you about real-world applications and safety.
