A gel-like substance where most of the chemical reactions happen. It contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions.

Bacterial cells are examples of prokaryotic cells. They are much smaller than eukaryotic cells. They have cytoplasm, a cell wall and a cell membrane. The genetic material isnt enclosed in a nucleus. Its a single DNA loop and there may be one or more small rings of DNA called plasmids.
