Macromoléculas Biológicas: Proteínas
As macromoléculas biológicas estão presentes em todas as células e são responsáveis pelo metabolismo celular. Entre elas, as proteínas se destacam como estruturas complexas formadas por aminoácidos - existem 20 tipos diferentes que se combinam em arranjos variados para formar polipeptídeos.
Cada proteína é composta por uma ou mais cadeias polipeptídicas unidas por ligações peptídicas. Os aminoácidos que as compõem podem ser classificados como essenciais (que precisamos obter pela alimentação) ou não essenciais (que nosso próprio corpo consegue produzir).
A estrutura básica de um aminoácido inclui um grupo amino (NH₂) na extremidade N-terminal, um grupo carboxila (COOH) na extremidade C-terminal, um átomo de hidrogênio e um radical (R) que varia conforme o tipo de aminoácido. A ligação peptídica acontece quando o grupo carboxila de um aminoácido reage com o grupo amino de outro, liberando uma molécula de água no processo.
💡 Pense nas proteínas como colares de contas, onde cada "conta" é um aminoácido diferente. A ordem específica dessas contas determina o tipo de proteína e sua função no organismo!

As proteínas se diferenciam umas das outras principalmente pela sua sequência de aminoácidos, também chamada de estrutura primária. É essa sequência específica que determina todas as características únicas de cada proteína.
Outros fatores que tornam cada proteína única incluem o tipo, a quantidade e o arranjo dos aminoácidos presentes em sua composição. Esses elementos influenciam diretamente na estrutura espacial que a proteína assumirá.
A estrutura tridimensional de uma proteína está diretamente relacionada à sua função biológica. É por isso que proteínas com sequências de aminoácidos similares frequentemente desempenham funções parecidas em diferentes organismos.
