Ethanol can be produced through two main methods: fermentation of glucose using yeast, and the hydration of ethene using steam and an acid catalyst. The latter process operates under carefully controlled conditions of temperature and pressure to maintain optimal yield. Similarly, the Haber process for ammonia production exemplifies the importance of equilibrium in industrial chemistry. Operating at 450°C and 200 atmospheres pressure, with an iron catalyst, this process converts nitrogen and hydrogen into ammonia. The Haber process conditions are precisely controlled to maximize yield while maintaining economic viability. When the student added water to anhydrous cobalt chloride, an exothermic reaction took place.
(c) Temperature Rise 
A student measured the temperature rise when anhydrous cobalt chloride was added to water. The student's results are shown in the table below:

(a) Mixture from Separator 
The mixture from the separator contains ethanol and water due to the reaction between ethene and steam.

According to Le Chatelier's Principle, increasing the temperature will decrease the amount of ethanol produced at equilibrium since the forward reaction is exothermic.

In the separator, the mixture is cooled and compressed to separate the ammonia from the other gases.
