Les premières traces de vie sur Terre remontent à environ 3,5 milliards d'années, sous forme de stromatolithes fossiles contenant des cyanobactéries.
Définition: Les stromatolithes sont des fossiles constitués de couches sédimentaires liées à l'activité de cyanobactéries.
La Grande Oxydation a été un événement majeur dans l'histoire de la Terre, marquant le début de l'accumulation significative d'oxygène dans l'atmosphère. Ce processus s'est déroulé en plusieurs étapes :
- Production d'oxygène par les cyanobactéries via la photosynthèse.
- Oxydation du fer dissous dans les océans primitifs, formant des roches de fer rubané.
