Spanish Travel & Tourism Vocabulary
Talking about holidays becomes much simpler when you've got the right words at your fingertips. The most crucial verbs you'll use include viajar (to travel), alojarse (to stay), and reservar (to book) - these pop up in nearly every travel conversation.
Accommodation vocabulary is essential for describing where you stay. Learn el albergue juvenil (youth hostel), el camping (campsite), and la pensión completa (full board) to show off your range. Don't forget transport terms like el billete de ida y vuelta (return ticket) and el crucero (cruise).
Your key phrases will make or break your speaking exam. Master "Me gusta ir de vacaciones porque..." (I like going on holiday because...) and "Para mis vacaciones ideales me gustaría ir a..." (For my dream holiday, I would like to go to...). These sentence starters give you confidence to express complex opinions.
Top Tip: Practise linking these phrases with porque (because) and sin embargo (however) to create longer, more impressive sentences that'll boost your marks.
Grammar Structures & Exam Questions
Verb conjugations in three tenses will cover most exam scenarios. Focus on ir (to go), estar (to be), and tener (to have) as they're used constantly when discussing travel plans. Remember: "yo fui" (I went), "yo voy" (I go), and "yo iré" (I will go).
Essential exam questions follow predictable patterns, so prepare your responses in advance. Questions like "¿Prefieres quedarte en Gran Bretaña o viajar al extranjero?" (Do you prefer staying in Great Britain or going abroad?) and "Háblame de las vacaciones de tus sueños" (Talk to me about your dream holiday) appear frequently.
Grammar tricks can instantly improve your responses. Use modifiers like "bastante" (quite) and intensifiers like "realmente" (really) to add sophistication. Connecting words such as aunque (although) and ya que help create complex sentences that impress examiners.
Exam Success: Prepare 2-3 detailed responses about past holidays, future plans, and dream destinations - most questions are variations of these themes, so you'll always have something relevant to say.
