Family Members & Physical Descriptions
Mastering Spanish family vocabulary is your gateway to more personal conversations and higher marks in speaking exams. The basics like la madre (mother), el padre (father), and los padres (parents) are essential, but don't forget extended family terms like el tío/la tía uncle/aunt and el/la primo/a (cousin).
When describing appearance, start with "Es..." he/sheis followed by descriptive words. Someone can be alto/a (tall), bajo/a (short), guapo/a (good looking), or delgado/a (slim). These adjectives change their endings depending on whether you're describing a male −o or female −a.
Hair descriptions follow the pattern "Tiene el pelo..." he/shehas...hair. You can describe it as largo/corto long/short, liso/rizado straight/curly, and colours like rubio/moreno/castaño blonde/dark/brown. For eyes, use "Tiene los ojos azules/verdes/marrones" he/shehasblue/green/browneyes.
Top Tip: Build complete sentences like "Mi hermana tiene el pelo largo y rubio, y tiene los ojos azules" to impress examiners with your fluency!
