Evolution of UK Education Systems
The Tripartite system introduced in 1944 created a divided approach to secondary education. It established two main types of schools: grammar schools and secondary modern schools, with selection determined by the 11+ exam. Middle-class pupils typically attended grammar schools while working-class pupils were more likely to attend secondary modern schools.
In 1965, the Comprehensive System was established, abolishing the 11+ exam. Under this approach, all pupils attended the same local comprehensive school regardless of academic ability, aiming to create a more equal educational environment.
New Labour policies (1997-2010) focused on reducing educational inequality through targeted initiatives. These included Education Action Zones in disadvantaged areas, Sure Start programmes, Education Maintenance Allowance for poorer 16-18 year olds, and increased funding for state education overall.
Did you know? The shift from the Tripartite to Comprehensive system represented one of the most significant changes in UK education policy, fundamentally altering how students were sorted and educated.
Conservative Policies have reflected neo-liberal thinking by reducing the state's role in education. Key reforms include promoting academies , establishing free schools , and implementing spending cuts to programmes like Sure Start.
These Conservative policies also introduced marketisation through league tables, which encourage high-performing schools to attract the best pupils. This has created a cycle where successful schools receive more funding due to higher enrollment, allowing them to improve facilities and resources, while less successful schools face declining numbers and resources.

The app is very easy to use and well designed. I have found everything I was looking for so far and have been able to learn a lot from the presentations! I will definitely use the app for a class assignment! And of course it also helps a lot as an inspiration.
This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.
Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
