Understanding Sociological Perspectives
Think of sociological perspectives as different glasses you can put on to view society - each pair shows you something completely different! These theories fall into two main camps that constantly debate each other.
Structural theorists take a macro approach, zooming out to see the big picture of how entire societies work. They believe that massive institutions like schools, governments, and families basically control how we behave. To them, you're more like a puppet being pulled by society's strings rather than making completely free choices.
Within this structural camp, there's a massive split. Consensus theories (like functionalism) reckon we all generally agree on society's rules and values - everyone's basically happy with the same laws and morals because they benefit us all. Meanwhile, conflict theories argue this is complete rubbish! Marxists see conflict between social classes, whilst feminists focus on gender inequalities creating tension.
On the flip side, social action theorists take a micro approach, focusing on individuals rather than massive institutions. They reject the idea that we're society's puppets and argue that people have free will and consciousness. Giddens' structuration theory tries to bridge this gap, suggesting both society and individual actions are equally important in shaping behaviour.
Quick Tip: Remember the key debate - are you shaped by society (structural) or do you shape society (social action)?

The app is very easy to use and well designed. I have found everything I was looking for so far and have been able to learn a lot from the presentations! I will definitely use the app for a class assignment! And of course it also helps a lot as an inspiration.
This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.
Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
