Jewish Beliefs About God and Creation
God as creator is absolutely central to Jewish faith - everything begins with God creating the universe. When you read "God said 'There shall be light' and light existed," you're seeing how Jews believe God spoke everything into existence with divine power.
Orthodox and Reform Jews approach creation differently though. Orthodox Jews don't accept scientific views about how the universe formed - they stay completely loyal to traditional religious explanations. Reform Jews are more flexible, often looking for deeper meaning behind creation stories rather than taking them literally.
The Shema is one of Judaism's most important prayers that reminds everyone there's only one God who loves people. This prayer reinforces that God is good, caring, and wants a relationship with humanity.
