Ever wondered how Muslims believe Allah communicates with humanity? Prophethood,... Show more

Think of prophethood as Allah's postal service to humanity - it's the channel through which divine messages are delivered. In Arabic, this concept is called risalah, which literally means 'message'.
Muslims believe Allah chose thousands of prophets throughout history, starting with Adam and ending with Muhammad as the 'seal of the prophets'. These weren't divine beings themselves, but ordinary humans selected to carry Allah's word.
Adam holds a special place as the first human, first Muslim, and first prophet all rolled into one. According to Islamic belief, he and his partner Eve (called Hawa in Arabic) are literally the parents of all humanity. Adam wasn't just sitting around in paradise either - Allah appointed him as a caliph or successor on earth, teaching him how to live properly and care for creation.
Quick Fact: Muslims believe Adam built the original Kaaba in Makkah, though it was later destroyed in Noah's flood and rebuilt by Ibrahim.

Ibrahim (Abraham) stands out as a game-changer in religious history. Living over 2,000 years before Muhammad, he rejected the common practice of polytheism - worshipping multiple gods - and chose to believe in just one God instead.
His most famous test came when Allah asked him to sacrifice his son Ismail. Ibrahim's willingness to obey (though Allah stopped him at the last moment) shows the kind of complete submission that Muslims admire. Through Ismail, Ibrahim became the ancestor of Arab peoples and eventually Muhammad himself.
Muhammad takes centre stage as Islam's final prophet. Unlike Jesus in Christianity, Muslims don't see Muhammad as divine - he was completely human. However, he's considered the most important messenger because he brought Allah's final revelation: the Qur'an.
Muhammad didn't just preach; he created real change. In Madinah, he established the first ummah (Muslim community), showing how Islamic principles work in practice.
Remember: Muhammad's life and sayings (called the Sunnah) serve as a practical guide for how Muslims should live today.

Born around 570 CE in Makkah, Muhammad grew up as an orphan raised by his uncle. His tribe, the Quraysh, had seen better days, but his family could trace their ancestry back to Ibrahim through Ismail.
Everything changed in 610 CE when Muhammad was 40. During prayer on Mount Hira, the angel Jibril appeared and commanded him to recite Allah's words. These revelations continued for 23 years and were later compiled into the Qur'an after Muhammad's death in 632 CE.
Not everyone welcomed Muhammad's message about worshipping one God instead of many. The threats became so serious that in 622 CE, Muhammad and his followers made the Hijra - a famous migration from Makkah to Madinah. This event marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.
Muhammad returned to Makkah ten years later, successfully converting many people to Islam. After his death, Islam continued spreading rapidly, though disagreements about leadership led to the Sunni and Shi'a split that still exists today.
Key Point: Muhammad combined being a religious leader with creating social and political change, proving that faith and action go hand in hand.
