Constitutional Reform Under Labour
Think of constitutional reform as Britain's political makeover – it's how we change the rules about who has power and how they use it. Unlike Conservatives who prefer leaving things as they are, Labour governments love tinkering with the system.
Between 1997-2010, Tony Blair's Labour government went reform-crazy. They tackled devolution (giving power to Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland), stripped most hereditary peers from the House of Lords, and created a Supreme Court. Since 2015, Brexit has dominated constitutional change. The European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Act 2020 finally got Britain out of the EU after years of political chaos. This wasn't just about trade – it fundamentally changed how laws are made and which courts have the final say.
