You might think the UK only has two real political parties, but that's actually a oversimplified view. A multi-party system simply means voters have more than two parties to choose from - and Britain definitely fits this description.
The key debate centres on whether having choice on the ballot paper actually matters if the same two parties keep winning. Since 1945, every Prime Minister has been either Labour or Conservative, which makes some people argue we're really just a two-party system in disguise.
However, this argument ignores crucial evidence. Even winning parties rarely get more than 45% of the vote - so where do all those other votes go? They're spread across multiple smaller parties, proving that voters actively choose alternatives to the big two.
