Wave Speed and Basic Characteristics

Wave calculations become straightforward once you grasp the fundamental wave speed equation: v = d/t. This formula connects distance, velocity, and time in ways you'll use constantly in physics problems.

Every wave has distinct features you need to recognise. The peak (or crest) represents the highest point, whilst the trough marks the lowest point. Understanding these basics helps you tackle more complex wave problems with confidence.

Wavelength (λ) measures the distance between any two identical points on adjacent waves - think peak to peak or trough to trough. Meanwhile, amplitude shows the wave's height from the centre line to either peak or trough, directly indicating the energy the wave carries.
