Luther: A Modern Crime Drama Masterpiece
Luther completely flips the script on traditional detective shows by giving us an anti-hero protagonist who's as complex as the criminals he chases. DCI John Luther isn't your typical squeaky-clean detective – he's morally ambiguous, psychologically damaged, and sometimes crosses lines that make viewers question whether he's really the good guy.
The BBC created something special when they commissioned this series in 2010. Unlike typical mainstream crime dramas, Luther uses high production values and cinematic techniques that make it feel more like a film than a TV show. The scheduling on BBC One prime time helped it reach massive audiences who were hungry for more sophisticated storytelling.
