Assassin's Creed started as a prototype for Prince of Persia but quickly became something much bigger. Developed by Ubisoft, this franchise has churned out games consistently since 2007, with Valhalla being the latest major release in 2020.

What makes these games special? They're historically-set action-adventure games that let you sneak around ancient worlds, climb buildings with parkour-style free running, and engage in epic combat. The formula works because each game offers familiar pleasures $assassins vs Templars storyline, open-world exploration$ whilst adding fresh elements like new time periods, protagonists, and gameplay mechanics.

The franchise has evolved massively from its early days. Later games introduced sandbox environments, multiplayer modes, and branching storylines that respond to your choices. Valhalla (2020) shows even smarter timing. Released across eighth and ninth-generation consoles simultaneously, it bridged the gap between old and new gaming systems. This multi-platform approach meant no one got left behind during the console transition, whilst new systems used Valhalla to demonstrate their improved capabilities.

Both games follow the franchise formula: deliver familiar pleasures that existing fans expect, then add new elements to attract broader audiences. Liberation offered a strong female protagonist, whilst Valhalla introduced enhanced combat, skill trees, avatar customisation, and even diplomatic solutions to missions.

The regulatory landscape has changed too - direct downloads bypass traditional store-based regulation, giving developers more control but raising new questions about content oversight.
