Rounding Decimals to Decimal Places

Rounding to decimal places means keeping a specific number of digits after the decimal point. The key rule is simple: if the next digit is 5 or more, round up; if it's 4 or less, round down.

Let's break down the examples. When rounding 7.245 to 1 decimal place, you look at the second decimal digit (4). Since 4 is less than 5, you round down to 7.2. For 5.864 to 1 decimal place, the second digit is 6, so you round up to 5.9.

Watch out for tricky cases like 14.9999 rounded to 2 decimal places. The third digit is 9 (≥5), so you round up, making 15.00. Always write the correct number of decimal places in your final answer.

Top Tip: When rounding creates zeros at the end (like 15.00), don't forget to include them - they show the level of accuracy required!
