Finding Your Revision Style
Here's the thing - everyone revises differently, and what works brilliantly for your mate might be completely useless for you. Some people swear by flashcards, whilst others need detailed notes to feel confident. The key is finding your personal style and sticking with it.
For science, maths, and other question-based subjects, you need to balance knowledge with exam technique. The most effective method follows this pattern: make notes first, then tackle short practice questions (or use flashcards), and finally work through exam-style questions. This approach guarantees you're covering all bases!
You'll need at least 3 different revision apps or websites to make this work properly . For science, try BBC Bitesize, Seneca, or Physics and Maths Tutor - they're all free and brilliant. Maths students should check out Maths Genie, Corbett Maths, or those challenging Spicy Questions from First Class Maths.
Top Tip: Quality beats quantity every time - 3 good resources used properly will serve you better than 10 different apps you barely touch.
Subject-Specific Strategies
English revision feels impossible because you never know what texts you'll face in the exam. YouTube channels like Mr Salles Teaches English and Stacey Reay are absolute lifesavers for both ideas and exam techniques. However, don't just copy their ideas - use them as starting points and build your own analysis.
To hit those top grades, you need to link texts to bigger concepts like ideologies or psychological theories (think Rousseau's blank slate theory or Marxism). Write down absolutely everything about your set texts because you never know what curveball question they'll throw at you!
Language subjects work best when you completely immerse yourself in them. Duolingo is fantastic, but also try Linga for foreign language books, Spotify podcasts (InnerFrench is brilliant), and YouTube channels in your target language. The more you surround yourself with the language, the more natural it becomes.
Coursework subjects are actually the easiest to revise for - just use the same methods above for written exams. For inspiration and grade examples, Pinterest, YouTube, and Knowunity are goldmines for seeing what top-grade work actually looks like.
Remember: Never over-revise! 1-2 hours daily is your maximum - burning out will actually harm your grades, so protect your mental health above everything else.
