Cechy i treść "Iliady"
"Iliada" to epos bohaterski - obszerny, wierszowany utwór epicki, w którym narrator zachowuje bezstronność, opisując wydarzenia historyczne. Charakterystyczną cechą jest występowanie dwóch płaszczyzn: boskiej i ziemskiej oraz inwokacja - apostrofa do muz z prośbą o natchnienie przy opisywaniu gniewu Achillesa.
Epos przedstawia kilkadziesiąt dni ostatniego roku wojny trojańskiej. Fabuła koncentruje się wokół gniewu Achillesa, który obrażony przez Agamemnona wycofuje się z walki, co prowadzi do klęsk Greków. Gdy jego przyjaciel Patroklos ginie z ręki Hektora, Achilles powraca do walki, zabija Hektora i bezcześci jego ciało - akt niedopuszczalny w kulturze greckiej.
Kluczowym momentem jest spotkanie Achillesa z królem Priamem, który przybywa błagać o wydanie ciała syna. Rozmowa o stracie i wspomnienia o ojcach doprowadzają do przemiany Achillesa, który oddaje ciało Hektora. Epos kończy się sceną pogrzebu.
