Christian and Islamic Beliefs & Practices

Christianity's core beliefs revolve around understanding God's nature and Jesus's journey. The Trinity shows God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit working together - remember "This is my Son whom I am well pleased" for Jesus's baptism. Creation quotes like "God saw all that he had made and it was very good" prove God's power and love for the world.

Jesus's story from birth to resurrection gives you loads of quotable moments. The Crucifixion ("My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?") and Resurrection ("He is not here, He has risen") are exam gold. Don't forget salvation - "For God so loved the world, He gave his one and only Son" appears everywhere in GCSE questions.

Islamic beliefs centre on Tawhid (God's oneness): "He is God the One, God the eternal." Angels, prophets, and holy books all connect back to Allah's guidance. The key quote "Muhammad is not the father of any one of you men, he is God's messenger and the seal of the prophets" shows Muhammad's special role.

Christian practices like baptism ("Therefore go and make disciples of all nations") and Holy Communion ("This is my body, which is for you") create community bonds. Islamic practices follow the Five Pillars - from Shahadah ("There is no God but Allah") to Hajj ("Pilgrimage to the House is a duty owed to God").

Exam Tip: These belief quotes work perfectly for 5-mark "explain" questions - always link them back to how they affect believers' daily lives!

Relationships, Life Issues, Peace & Justice

Marriage and family quotes shape Christian views on relationships. "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife" supports traditional marriage, while "Love thy neighbour" offers a more inclusive approach to modern relationships. Gender equality gets complex with "There is neither... male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Life and death issues hit the big ethical debates you'll face in exams. Abortion splits Christians between "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you" $pro-life$ and "Love thy neighbour" (showing compassion). Euthanasia creates similar tensions with "Thou shall not kill" versus "Blessed are the merciful."

Environmental responsibility comes from stewardship - "Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky" doesn't mean destroy everything! Christians believe "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it," so they must protect God's creation. This connects to climate change debates perfectly.

War and peace quotations give you both sides of every argument. Pacifism uses "Blessed are the peace makers" and "turn to them the other cheek," while just war theory points to "Declare a Holy war, call the troops to arms." Crime and punishment balances "Eye for eye, tooth for tooth" with forgiveness: "not seven times, but seventy times seven."

Exam Tip: For 12-mark evaluation questions, use contrasting quotes to show different Christian perspectives - this demonstrates sophisticated understanding that examiners love!
