Why the League of Nations Failed

The Council was dominated by permanent members like Britain and France, who always acted in their own interests rather than for global peace.

The League's sanctions were basically toothless. Moral sanctions relied on countries feeling guilty (spoiler alert: dictators don't), economic sanctions failed because the USA wasn't even a member, and military sanctions were impossible since the League had no army and countries refused to provide troops.
