Why the League of Nations Failed

Ever wondered how an organisation designed to prevent war could actually make another world war more likely? The League of Nations' failure shows us exactly how that happened.

The Great Depression absolutely crushed the League's effectiveness. Countries became so focused on their own struggling economies that they stopped caring about world peace. This economic chaos also helped bring dictators like Hitler to power, creating the very threats the League was supposed to prevent.

Organisational problems made things even worse. The Assembly only met once per year, and every single decision needed to be unanimous - imagine trying to get everyone in your year group to agree on anything! The Council was dominated by permanent members like Britain and France, who always acted in their own interests rather than for global peace.

The League's sanctions were basically toothless. Moral sanctions relied on countries feeling guilty (spoiler alert: dictators don't), economic sanctions failed because the USA wasn't even a member, and military sanctions were impossible since the League had no army and countries refused to provide troops.

Key Point: The League's biggest weakness was that it depended entirely on countries wanting to cooperate - but when times got tough, cooperation went out the window.

The app is very easy to use and well designed. I have found everything I was looking for so far and have been able to learn a lot from the presentations! I will definitely use the app for a class assignment! And of course it also helps a lot as an inspiration.

This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.

Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
