Humanitarian and Social Successes
Think about having to flee your home because of war - that's exactly what happened to thousands of people in Russia and Greece, but the League stepped in to help. The Commission for Refugees didn't just provide temporary shelter; they actively worked to get people back home safely once conflicts ended.
The League's fight against slavery was absolutely groundbreaking. In Sierra Leone alone, they managed to free 200,000 people from slavery - imagine the impact on those families! The Slavery Commission was particularly effective across African countries, where they systematically dismantled slavery networks.
Meanwhile, the Health Committee was busy saving lives on a completely different front. They tackled diseases like malaria that were killing people across continents. More importantly, they educated communities worldwide about hygiene and disease prevention - knowledge that's still protecting us today.
Did you know? The International Labour Organisation convinced 77 countries to introduce minimum wage standards - that's worker protection on a global scale!
