Powstanie nazizmu i dojście Hitlera do władzy
Nazizm narodził się w Niemczech po I wojnie światowej z poczucia krzywdy i upokorzenia po przegranej wojnie. Niemcy nie mogli pogodzić się z postanowieniami traktatu wersalskiego, a kryzys gospodarczy i duża liczba bezrobotnych weteranów tylko pogłębiły frustrację.
W 1919 roku w Bawarii powstała Niemiecka Partia Robotników (DAP), która rok później przekształciła się w Narodowosocjalistyczną Niemiecką Partię Robotników (NSDAP). Adolf Hitler przejął władzę w partii w 1921 roku, przyjmując tytuł "wodza" (Führer). Podczas pobytu w więzieniu po nieudanym puczu monachijskim w 1923 roku napisał "Mein Kampf", księgę zawierającą założenia nazizmu.
Wielki kryzys ekonomiczny przyniósł nazistom ogromną popularność, co doprowadziło do ich zwycięstwa w wyborach parlamentarnych w 1932 roku. Hitler został kanclerzem Niemiec 30 stycznia 1933 roku. Po podpaleniu Reichstagu otrzymał specjalne pełnomocnictwa pozwalające mu rządzić bez parlamentu. W 1934 roku podczas "nocy długich noży" wymordowano przeciwników Hitlera, a po śmierci prezydenta Hindenburga Hitler ogłosił się "Führerem i kanclerzem Rzeszy".
Warto zapamiętać: Naziści wykorzystali trudną sytuację gospodarczą i społeczną Niemiec po I wojnie światowej, by zdobyć poparcie społeczeństwa. To pokazuje, jak ważna jest stabilność ekonomiczna dla zachowania demokracji.
III Rzesza jako państwo totalitarne
Niemcy szybko przekształciły się w państwo totalitarne. Wszystkie organizacje zlikwidowano i zastąpiono nowymi, kontrolowanymi przez NSDAP. Wprowadzono ideologię uznającą Niemców za "rasę panów" (nadludzi), którzy powinni panować nad światem.
Joseph Goebbels kierował potężnym systemem propagandy, a dzieci od najmłodszych lat indoktrynowano w organizacji Hitlerjugend. Gestapo pod dowództwem Heinricha Himmlera likwidowało wszystkich przeciwników Hitlera.
Szczególnie okrutnie traktowano Żydów, których naziści uważali za podludzi. W 1933 roku utworzono pierwsze obozy koncentracyjne dla przeciwników reżimu. W 1935 roku wprowadzono ustawy norymberskie pozbawiające Żydów obywatelstwa. Kulminacją prześladowań była "noc kryształowa" , kiedy palono synagogi i sklepy żydowskie, a tysiące Żydów trafiło do obozów koncentracyjnych.
Nazistowska polityka antysemityzmu i represji
Prześladowanie Żydów i przeciwników politycznych nabrało z czasem coraz bardziej brutalnego charakteru. Naukowcy, pisarze i artyści o lewicowych czy liberalnych poglądach lub pochodzenia żydowskiego byli zmuszani do emigracji. Naziści niszczyli książki uznane za "antyniemieckie", zwłaszcza te napisane przez Żydów.
System obozów koncentracyjnych, utworzony już w 1933 roku, stał się narzędziem terroru wobec opozycji. Trafiali tam politycy opozycyjni, działacze związkowi, duchowni i niezależni dziennikarze - wszyscy bez wyroków sądowych. To był początek systemu, który później przerodził się w przemysłową machinę Holokaustu.
Ustawy norymberskie z 1935 roku były pierwszym krokiem do pełnej segregacji rasowej. Odebrały Żydom obywatelstwo niemieckie i zakazały małżeństw między Żydami a "Aryjczykami". Po "nocy kryształowej" w listopadzie 1938 roku wprowadzono całkowitą segregację - Żydom zakazano wstępu do kin, teatrów i parków miejskich oraz wykonywania wielu zawodów.
Pamiętaj: Nazizm nie pojawił się nagle - był rezultatem stopniowego procesu radykalizacji społeczeństwa i systematycznego ograniczania praw obywatelskich. Ta lekcja historii pokazuje, jak ważne jest reagowanie na pierwsze przejawy dyskryminacji i łamania praworządności.
