Early Life Stages: Infancy to Adolescence

Infancy $0-2 years$ is all about rapid change. Babies grow incredibly fast in weight and height whilst developing language and memory skills at lightning speed. They form crucial attachments with caregivers that shape their emotional wellbeing, making them completely dependent on adults for everything.

Early childhood $3-8 years$ continues this growth pattern but adds exciting new skills. Kids master both gross motor skills (like running) and fine motor skills (like writing). Their curiosity explodes, language becomes fluent, and they develop strong memories that help them learn.

Emotionally, young children become more independent and form relationships beyond their families. Their social circle widens dramatically as they make close friendships and learn social rules through play. Security and contentment remain the foundation of their emotional wellbeing.

Later Life Stages: Adolescence to Middle Adulthood

Adolescence $9-18 years$ brings the biggest physical changes since infancy with puberty beginning. Primary and secondary sexual characteristics develop differently for males and females. Intellectually, teenagers develop complex and abstract thinking abilities that let them solve harder problems.

This stage cranks up independence even further. Teens gain more freedom to make their own decisions but often worry about self-image and self-esteem. They form both formal and informal relationships that strongly influence their choices, including their first intimate relationships.

Early adulthood $19-45 years$ represents peak physical fitness and full sexual maturity. People master abstract and creative thinking, focus on careers, and might return to education. They achieve independent living and form long-lasting, intimate relationships that often lead to marriage and families.

Middle adulthood $45-65 years$ marks the beginning of the ageing process. Women experience menopause, but people use their accumulated knowledge for complex decision-making. Some face retirement, which can affect self-esteem, though many gain more time for socialising.
