Your GP surgery is your first stop when you need medical help. GPs diagnose illnesses whilst nurses carry out treatments, health screenings, and blood tests. It's basically your medical home base.
Hospitals come into play when you need specialist care. Your GP refers you there for specialist doctors who can prescribe special medications or arrange operations. Think of it as the next level up from your local surgery.
Residential care settings provide homes for people who can't be cared for at home anymore. These facilities offer both full-time care and temporary respite care to give family carers a much-needed break.
Key Point: Social care workers are the backbone of community support, helping people maintain their independence through domiciliary care (care at home) and day care centres for older people and those with disabilities.
Understanding Care Terminology
Getting familiar with healthcare terminology makes everything clearer. Professional roles require higher qualifications and registration with professional bodies, whilst non-professional roles might need training like NVQs but not necessarily a degree.
