Ever wondered what makes Africa such a fascinating continent? It's absolutely massive - the second-largest continent on Earth with 54 countries (some say 56, depending on political recognition). Natural Resources and Economic Reality

Here's the tricky bit though - having loads of natural resources doesn't automatically make countries wealthy. Many African nations remain quite poor despite their resource wealth. Over 400 million people live in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $1.90 per day. This happens because of factors like drought, conflict, and poor infrastructure that prevent the wealth from reaching ordinary people.

Sub-Saharan Africa relies heavily on exporting natural resources, which account for 75% of their exports. The challenge African countries face today is making sure this resource wealth actually improves people's lives rather than just benefiting a few.

Africa's diversity extends beyond resources too. Swahili is the most widely spoken African language with 100 million speakers, though English and French serve as official languages in many countries due to colonial history. Christianity and Islam are the two main religions practiced across the continent.
