How to Tackle 12-Mark Geography Questions

Geography 12-mark questions come in two main types, and recognising which one you're facing is crucial for success. Synoptic questions ask you to examine or analyse topics using multiple sources, whilst decision questions require you to evaluate and make judgements about issues.

The key to both question types is using a structured approach that examiners can follow easily. You'll need to demonstrate detailed knowledge whilst backing up every point with specific evidence from the resources provided.

Top tip: Always read the command words carefully - "examine" means look at in detail, whilst "evaluate" means weigh up the pros and cons before making a judgement.
