Te-ai întrebat vreodată de ce unele regiuni au veri fierbinți dar și ierni mai răcoroase? Zonele subtropicale se află fix între tropice și zonele temperate, între 25° și 40° latitudine în ambele emisfere. Această poziție specială creează un climat foarte interesant!
Temperaturile aici pot varia extrem de mult, de la -5°C până la +46°C, cu o medie anuală de aproximativ 20°C. Verile sunt aproape tropicale (super calde!), dar iernile sunt mai blânde, fără temperaturile extreme ale zonelor temperate.
Durata zilei variază între 9 și 15 ore, în funcție de anotimp. Acest lucru afectează direct plantele și animalele din aceste zone, care trebuie să se adapteze la aceste schimbări.

În regiunea Mediteraneană găsim o biodiversitate ridicată cu plante adaptate la secetă, în timp ce savanele uscate sunt dominate de ierburi și arbuști rezistenți. Zonele deșertice au vegetație rară sau inexistentă, iar zonele umede subtropicale sunt adevărate paradisuri de biodiversitate.
