Poloha a základné pojmy o Afrike
Keď sa pozrieš na mapu sveta, Afrika sa ti ukáže ako obrovský kontinent s naozaj špeciálnou polohou. Je to druhý najväčší kontinent na planéte a jeho umiestnenie ovplyvňuje všetko - od počasia až po to, aké tam žijú zvieratá.
Najdôležitejšie si zapamätaj tieto pojmy: kontinent (veľká pevnina), rovník (neviditeľná čiara v strede Zeme na 0° šírky) a nultý poludník (čiara prechádzajúca Greenwichom na 0° dĺžky). Tieto čiary delia našu planétu na pologule.
Rozloha znamená, akú plochu niečo zaberá - u Afriky je to neuveriteľných 30,3 milióna km². Pre porovnanie, naše Slovensko je 618-krát menšie!
Zaujímavosť: Afrika je jediný kontinent na svete, cez ktorý prechádzajú súčasne rovník aj nultý poludník!
Kde presne leží Afrika na mape
Rovník prechádza Afrikou skoro presne uprostred, čo znamená, že sa tento kontinent rozprestiera v severnej aj južnej pologuli. Vďaka tomu má Afrika také rozmanité podnebie - od horúcich tropických oblastí až po púšte.
Nultý poludník zase prechádza západnou časťou Afriky, takže sa nachádza aj vo východnej, aj v západnej pologuli. Toto robí z Afriky skutočne výnimočný kontinent!

Afrika zaberá približne 20% celkovej rozlohy všetkej súše na našej planéte. To je skutočne impozantné číslo! Pre lepšiu predstavu - keby si chcel prejsť Afriku zo severu na juh, musel by si prejsť viac ako 8000 kilometrov.
Táto obrovská rozloha znamená, že v Afrike nájdeš neuveriteľnú rozmanitosť. Od horúcich púští cez tropické dažďové lesy až po savany plné zvierat - všetko vďaka jej veľkosti a polohe.
