Facial Consultation Basics

Getting to know your client is absolutely crucial before any facial treatment begins. You'll need to discover if they have any medical conditions that might prevent certain treatments from happening safely.

The consultation isn't just a chat - it's about understanding exactly what the client wants and making sure you can deliver it. Always get them to sign a treatment plan because this shows they're giving proper consent for what you're about to do.

Think of this stage as detective work. The more you know about their skin and lifestyle, the better treatment you can provide and the happier they'll be with the results.

Top Tip: Never skip the consultation, even if you're running late - it protects both you and your client!

Assessment Techniques and Legal Requirements

There are three main ways to assess a client's skin properly. Questioning involves asking about their routine - things like "How often do you wash your face?" or "What products are you currently using?"

Visual assessment means really looking at their skin type, checking for spots that might be ready for extraction, and spotting conditions like acne, sensitivity, or eczema. Manual assessment involves actually touching their face to check texture, oiliness, dryness, and skin elasticity.

Always keep client records for future reference - this helps you track progress and remember what worked well. Remember to constantly observe your client's body language throughout the treatment.

If you're treating anyone under 16, they're considered a minor and must have parental consent plus a parent present at all times - the law says they can't make these decisions independently.

Remember: Good record-keeping isn't just professional - it's essential for building long-term client relationships!
