French Writing Exam Key Phrases
Opinion phrases are your secret weapon for sounding more sophisticated than just saying "je pense que" every time. Mix things up with "selon moi" (according to me) or "à mon avis" (in my opinion) to show you've got variety in your vocabulary.
Try "je trouve que" (I find that) or "je dirais que" (I would say that) when you want to sound thoughtful. For stronger opinions, use "je crois que" (I believe that) or "je sais que" (I know that).
Si phrases are brilliant for extending your answers and showing you can handle conditional language. "Si je pourrais" (if I could) and "si j'avais le choix, je voudrais" (if I had the choice, I would) instantly make your writing more complex and impressive.
Sentence starters like "je voudrais parler de" (I would like to talk about) and "ce que je ne peux pas supporter" (what I can't bear is) give your writing structure. Don't forget time phrases - "dans le passé" (in the past) and "à l'avenir" (in the future) help you discuss different time periods smoothly.
Top Tip: Use exclamatory phrases like "quelle catastrophe!" or "quel voyage agréable!" to add emotion and personality to your writing - examiners love seeing natural French expressions!
