French Specialities and Fruits
Ever wondered what makes French cuisine so famous? You'll discover some absolute classics here! French specialities like escargots (snails) and cuisses de grenouilles (frogs' legs) might sound unusual, but they're considered delicacies.
The pastries are much more familiar - croissants, pain au chocolat, and brioches are treats you've probably enjoyed before. Don't forget the savoury options like salade niçoise or the luxurious foie gras (goose liver pâté).
French fruits follow similar patterns to English, but watch out for the tricky ones! Une pomme (apple) and une pêche (peach) are feminine, whilst un citron (lemon) and un melon are masculine. The plural forms like les fraises (strawberries) and les cerises (cherries) are essential for shopping conversations.
Top tip: Notice how many fruit names are similar to English - orange, melon, and banane are almost identical!

Remember: 'Des' means 'some' - so des frites literally means 'some chips', perfect for ordering!
