Mastering Story Structure for GCSE English

Story Structure Techniques
When authors write stories, they make deliberate choices about how to organise their ideas. These structural techniques create different effects on you as a reader. For example, an author might use narrative perspective (1st, 2nd or 3rd person) to control how close you feel to the characters.
Authors often shift the focus of their writing to guide your attention. This might involve zooming in on specific details or using a cyclical structure where an idea appears at both the beginning and end. Other common techniques include flashbacks (showing past events), foreshadowing (hinting at future events), and recurring imagery that appears multiple times throughout a text.
The classic 5-part story structure includes exposition (the beginning setup), rising action (where tension builds), climax (the peak moment), falling action (where things start to resolve), and denouement (the final resolution). Understanding this pattern helps you track how tension rises and falls in a text.
Pro tip: When answering structure questions, choose techniques from the beginning, middle and end of the extract to show how the writer develops ideas throughout the whole text.
When analysing an extract, read it multiple times and highlight evidence of structural techniques. Create a detailed plan for your essay using the PEEL structure (Point, Evidence, Explanation, Link) with carefully selected quotes. Remember to use discourse markers to connect your ideas smoothly and proofread your work for spelling and grammar marks.

The app is very easy to use and well designed. I have found everything I was looking for so far and have been able to learn a lot from the presentations! I will definitely use the app for a class assignment! And of course it also helps a lot as an inspiration.
This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.
Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
