Kingship in Macbeth: Good vs Bad Rulers

Ever wondered what separates a great king from a tyrant? Shakespeare makes this crystal clear through his contrasting monarchs in Macbeth.

Duncan represents the ideal king - he's trustworthy, fair, and puts Scotland's needs first. Macbeth himself admits Duncan is "clear in his great office", showing even his future murderer recognises Duncan's excellence. Duncan rewards loyalty and wants his country to prosper, creating the stable leadership Scotland needs.

Macbeth, however, becomes everything a king shouldn't be. His violent, tyrannical rule destroys the peace Duncan created. The key difference? Macbeth "places his own desires above his love of Scotland", which Shakespeare hints will make him a terrible ruler from the start.

Malcolm learns from both examples to become an even better king than his father. Unlike Duncan, who trusted too easily, Malcolm is cautious with the thanes - suggesting he won't make the same fatal mistakes that cost his father his life.

Key Point: In Shakespeare's time, people believed kings were appointed by God, which is why the "holy" King Edward and Malcolm receive divine support - they're the rightful rulers.

The app is very easy to use and well designed. I have found everything I was looking for so far and have been able to learn a lot from the presentations! I will definitely use the app for a class assignment! And of course it also helps a lot as an inspiration.

Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
