In Afghan society, Baba represents the "perfect" masculine man - strong, brave, and respected by everyone. His neighbours call him "Mr Hurricane" because of his legendary fight with a bear, showing how society celebrates masculine bravery and power.
However, this obsession with masculinity creates serious problems. Amir desperately wants his father's approval, leading him to value sports over poetry and ultimately betraying Hassan to win the blue kite. The pressure to be "masculine enough" makes Amir act selfishly, sacrificing his best friend just to reach "Baba's heart."
Baba himself is deeply hypocritical - while demanding moral behaviour from Amir, he secretly betrayed his best friend Ali. This shows how toxic masculinity forces men to hide their true selves and hurt others to maintain their "manly" image.
