Character Quotes: Iago, Desdemona, and Cassio
Iago is the master manipulator whose quotes reveal his evil nature. His famous line "put money in thy purse" shows how he controls Roderigo, whilst "turn her virtue into pitch" demonstrates his plan to corrupt Desdemona's goodness. The racist imagery in "an old black ram is tupping your white ewe" reveals the prejudice he uses to manipulate Brabantio.
Desdemona's quotes highlight her innocence and loyalty. "Divided duty" shows her conflict between father and husband, whilst "I cannot say whore" reveals her purity even when falsely accused.
