Lady Macduff's Abandonment
Ever felt completely let down by someone you trusted? Lady Macduff is absolutely furious that her husband Macduff has fled Scotland, leaving her and their children completely vulnerable. She's not buying Ross's attempts to defend Macduff's decision - to her, it's pure cowardice.
Her anger is raw and justified. She uses the powerful image of a tiny wren fighting an owl to protect her babies, asking why even the smallest bird shows more courage than her husband. This isn't just about feeling abandoned - she genuinely believes Macduff has put fear above family love.
Ross tries to calm her down, explaining that these are "cruel times" when good people are forced to make impossible choices. His cryptic warning about floating on a "wild and violent sea" hints that he knows more danger is coming than he can safely reveal.
